Are you missing out?
As human beings, we are built to avoid pain. It keeps us safe… right?
Most of the time, yes. Pain usually signals an injury or impending injury of some kind. So, it makes sense that we’d want to avoid it.
Unless…
We associate being uncomfortable with “pain.”
When we go through change, or a period of growth, we can become uncomfortable as we are pushed out of our comfort zone. And that can sometimes feel like pain. We fear those transitions from one place to the next, which prevents us from progression.
This fear of pain can lead us to turn away from our growth or reward right at the threshold of attaining it.
We could be avoiding the door that leads to our destiny because of the fear of taking one step!
“Fear robs you of your freedom to make the right choice in life that can bridge the gap between where you are and where you want to be. On the other side of fear, lies freedom. If you want to grow, you need to be brave and take risks. If you’re not uncomfortable, you’re not growing.”
– Roy T. Bennett
Does this mean there is something wrong with you?
No.
This fear of crossing thresholds, figuratively or literally, is primal. Our brains don’t like transitions.
It’s a matter of making a decision to push through the discomfort and fear of change and cross the threshold into our growth.
And when we do, and look back at that doorway, we realize there was really nothing to fear at all!
What transitions have you been avoiding? Is it time to cross that threshold?
